Too many wedges in my bag?

I’m not a long hitter. I’ll layup to 90 yards and pull out a Gap Wedge for a smoth gap to the green. If I’m 160+ yards, I’d rather lay up to 90, instead of going for the green and missing and needing a harder shot: chip or pitch.

I pulled a long club out in favor for another wedge because my wedges are at odd degrees.

I only use a 60* in sand bunker (soft sand) and downhill chips, but i needed a wedge with no bounce for tighter lies and harder bunkers. I added a 58* SW for this reason. I used to carry a 56* instead of a 54* but the inbetween distances were killing me.

Here’s my setup with distances. I’m a 15 handicap:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Draw 12* (230yds)
TaylorMade 3 wood 15* (210yds)
Cleveland Hibore XLS 3 Hybrid 23* (180yds)
Cobra Carbon CB irons 5-9 (168-125yds)
Cobra Carbon CB PW 46* (115yds)
Cobra Carbon CB GW 50* (105yds)
Cleveland CG 12 54*:12* (95 yds)
Titleist Vokey Spin 58*:8* (85 yds)
Cleveland CG 12 60*:12* (80 yds)
Should i just get a 54* with no bounce for hard sand?
Johann… when did I say I was a long hitter? I’m worse from 10-30 yards out to the left and right of the green than a layup from 90 yards out. Hence my 15 handicap… of course, once I can nail that 160 yarder, then I’ll be fine.

I’m "NOT A LONG HITTER" as I stated.

Need a recommendation on a hybrid club?

I need a club for a second shot, usually out of rough, for par 5′s that gets me to an 150 yard approach. I am overswinging low irons.
I know nothing about hybrid clubs. Is there a certain manufacturer and club face angle i need to look for?

I have launcher irons, fairway woods, driver and the HALO hybrid…they are the best clubs I’ve ever owned; it feels like i’m cheating whenever we get on the course. They were also priced right…any idea why they were discontinued?

I’ve been playing with a Taylor Made set from just before 2000 just before the oversized, 460 cc drivers came into play, which I got the set for free. I saved some money and decided to treat myself. This is what I bought for under 400. I would like to state that I am going to stay with the taylor made irons. Love em. Used to be under 20 handicapped, around 18, now about 25 because I took two years off but I’ve been playing almost every day this season and getting personal tec lessons.
Have good paying full time job at perfect hours so I can play every day and get to single digit handicapped by the year 2045.

Hi,

I’m looking to buy new golf clubs (my current ones are like 7 or 8 years old), but the pro I got a lesson with said that you shouldn’t buy individual clubs. You should get them in sets, because then they have the same grip/feel…etc.

It kinda makes sense I suppose, but it’s tough to find a set containing the type of clubs I want, type of shaft…etc.

So do you think this is really necessary? Is it what the pro’s do? The best golf driver I’ve found was a cleveland hibore, but I couldn’t find a whole set/or woods set with it.

Also, I golf 40+ hours a week (seriously) during the year when it’s not cold, I’m 16 and a half, and I only average a few strokes over par. Should I get graphite shafts?

Also with the hybrids, my long iron shots are probably one of the worst parts of my game currently. I want to be a golf pro (don’t tell me what the odds are please..), so would it be bad to get hybrids? Or should I just try to improve with my long irons? Are the irons more accurate, and that’s why most of the pros use them instead?

This is a lot I’m asking, but if you could at least help me with 1 of these questions that would be great =)

Thanks.

Why are my golf clubs rusting?

I purchased a set of new Cleveland CMM irons and wedges and have been using them for about a year. I clean them with water after every round and have noticed that they have slowly started to rust. Is this a design feature to create more spin, or are mine starting to wear away? I golf at most 2 times per week and

My grandfather gave me this set not too long ago and told me I might get some money for them. He claims they are from 1956, according to the previous owner he got them from. If your interested in buying them we might be able to arrange something. Where can I sell them? I saw the same clubs on Ebay with no bids.

The set includes a driver, 2-3 woods, and 1-10 irons. Everything on the clubs are original. They have never been re-gripped or have had the shafts shortened. The driver and woods are in pretty decent condition but the irons are in great condition!
