Opinion on Nicklaus designed courses?

I just got back from Reunion (outside Orlando) and played the Nicklaus designed course and I think Jack is getting a little wacky in his old age. Most of the greens were very shalllow, so if you were a half a club off on the approach you had no chance. The greens were elevated with severe steep bunkers, and even one hole with an unraked waste area surrounding the green on three sides. This is a resort area and the course was so difficult that pro’s would have a tough time breaking par, and the average tourist hack is not going to break 100. I have played other Nicklaus courses and it seems Jack is more intent on making his course difficult to score on than enjoyable? I am begining to think that if I hear a course is designed by Nicklaus I will just stay away.
I am a 7.2 index, I was with another player that is about the same and two others that are probably 20 handicappers. We played two sets of tees up from the tips (140 slope) and unlike some Nicklaus courses the trouble was not visible. Fairway bunkers 190 yards from the green with such steep lips you had to hit an 8 iron at most just to escape – no chance to reach the green even if you are capable of hitting a 190 yard 3 iron out of sand. Steep collection areas behind the greens. One of our high handicappers hit in the front bunker on a par three. Steep face he didn’t get out on his first attempt. Took a big swipe at the second one and it went over the shallow green, into a steep run off that extended forty yards behind the green. This is overkill, you already hit it in the bunker, then over the green, no need to penalize further by leaving a forty yard pitch uphill. It just seemed like the average vacationer would have no fun. Blind tee shots, blind approaches too much
